What Comtan is and what it is used for Comtan tablets contain entacapone and are used together with levodopa to treat Parkinson's disease. Comtan supports the action of levodopa in relieving the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Comtan does not relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease if taken without levodopa. 2. What you need to know before taking Comtan Do not take Comtan if you are allergic to entacapone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6); If you have a tumor of the adrenal gland (known as phaeochromocytoma, this may increase the risk of a severe hypertonic reaction); If you are taking certain antidepressants (ask your doctor or pharmacist if you can take your antidepressants with Comtan); If you have liver disease; If you have ever suffered from rare reactions to antipsychotic medicinal products called malignant neuroleptic syndrome (NMS). See the description of the ICC in section 4 "Possible side effects"; If you have ever suffered from a rare muscular disease called rhabdomyolysis that was not caused by trauma. Warnings and precautions Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Comtan: if you have ever had a coronary heart disease or any other heart disease; If you are taking a medicine that can cause dizziness or fainting (lowering blood pressure) when getting up from a chair or bed; If you have persistent diarrhea, talk to your doctor as it may be a sign of inflammation of the colon;

If you have diarrhea it is recommended to track body weight to prevent possible excessive weight loss; If you experience progressive loss of appetite, weakness, tiredness and weight loss for a relatively short period of time, it is necessary to discuss a general medical examination including a liver function test. Tell your doctor if you or your family / caregiver notice that you have a tendency or irresistible urge to behave in a way that is unusual for you, or you can not resist the impulses, the urge, or the temptation to perform certain actions with which you can Get hurt or injure others. Such behavior is called improper control of impulses, and may include gambling addiction, overeating or spending, excessive sexual desire, or compulsive sexual thoughts or ideas. Your doctor may need to re-evaluate your treatment. Because Comtan tablets will be taken together with other medicines containing levodopa, please read the package leaflets carefully. When commencing Comtan, it may be necessary to adjust the doses of other medicines to treat Parkinson's disease. Follow the instructions exactly as your doctor tells you to. Malignant Neuroleptic Syndrome (MMC) is a serious but rare side effect of certain drugs. Its appearance is possible, especially when Comtan and other medicines to treat Parkinson's disease suddenly stop or their dose drops sharply. For a description of the ICC, see section 4 "Possible side effects". Your doctor may advise you to stop treatment with Comtan and other medicines to treat Parkinson's disease slowly. Comtan, taken together with levodopa, can cause dizziness or cause you to suddenly fall asleep sometimes. If this happens, you should not drive or operate machinery (see "Driving and using machines"). Other medicines and Comtan Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. It is especially important to tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following
Comtan contains sucrose Comtan contains sugar called sucrose. For this reason, if your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. 3. How to take Comtan Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Comtan is taken together with medicines containing levodopa (medicines containing levodopa / carbidopa or levodopa / benserazide). At the same time, other medicines can be taken to treat Parkinson's disease. The recommended dose of Comtan is one 200 mg tablet with each dose of levodopa. The maximum recommended dose is 10 tablets per day. 2 000 mg Comtan. If you are on dialysis due to renal insufficiency, your doctor may advise you to increase the time between dosing. Use in children and adolescents Experience with Comtan in patients under 18 years of age is limited. Therefore, the use of Comtan in children is not recommended. If you take more Comtan than you should If you overdose, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nearest hospital immediately. If you forget to take Comtan If you forget to take Comtan with the levodopa dose, you must continue treatment by taking the next Comtan tablet with the next dose of levodopa. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed tablet. If you stop taking Comtan Do not stop taking Comtan until your doctor tells you to. If you stop taking it, your doctor may need to adjust the dose of other medicines you are taking to treat Parkinson's disease. Suddenly stop taking Comtan and other medicines to treat Parkinson's disease can cause side effects. Refer to Section 2 "Warnings and Precautions". If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. 4. Possible side effects Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Usually, side effects that Comtan causes are mild to moderate in severity. Some of the side effects are due to an increase in the therapeutic effect of levodopa and occur primarily at the start of treatment. If you experience similar side effects when initiating Comtan treatment, you should tell your doctor who may decide to adjust the dose of levodopa. Very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people): uncontrolled movements with difficulty in performing volitional movements (dyskinesias); Feeling sick (nausea); Innocuous urine coloration in reddish-brown color. Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): excessive movements (hyperkinesia), worsening of Parkinson's disease, prolonged muscle spasms (dystonia); Nausea (vomiting), diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, dry mouth; Dizziness, fatigue, increased sweating, fainting; Hallucinations (seeing / hearing / feeling / sniffing things that do not really exist), drowsiness, vivid dreams and confusion; Events related to heart and vessel diseases (eg chest pain). Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): a coronary event. Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): rash; Liver function abnormalities. Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): Excitement; Decreased appetite, weight loss; Urticaria. Not known (frequency can not be estimated from the available data): inflammation of the colon (colitis), inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) with yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes; Change in the color of the skin, hair, beard and nails.
Contents of the pack and further information What Comtan contains - The active substance is entacapone. Each tablet contains 200 mg of entacapone. -The other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, mannitol, croscarmellose, sodium, hydrogenated vegetable oil, magnesium stearate.
The film coating of the tablet contains hypromellose, polysorbate 80, glycerol 85%, sucrose, yellow iron oxide (E172), red iron oxide (E172), titanium dioxide (E171) and magnesium stearate. What Comtan looks like and contents of the pack Comtan 200 mg film-coated tablets are brown-orange, round tablets with stamped "Comtan" on one side. Packaged in bottles. There are three different pack sizes (bottles containing 30, 60 or 100 tablets). Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
