Ingredients:
The active substance of Zometa is zoledronic acid. It is available as a liquid concentrate in a vial. Each vial contains 4 mg zoledronic acid .
Excipients are mannitol , sodium citrate and water for injections.

What is Zometa and what it is used?
Zometa is administered as an intravenous infusion. Use for the treatment of bone metastases , as well as reducing the amount of calcium in the blood of patients with tumor-induced hypercalcaemia. Zoledronic acid works by attaching to the bone and decreases the rate of bone turnover . Used to reduce the amount of calcium in the blood when it is too high due to the presence of a tumor. Tumors accelerate normal bone turnover leading to an increase in the release of calcium from the bones . This condition is known as tumor-induced hypercalcaemia.

Before administration of Zometa ?

Should not be given Zometa :
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have an allergy to zoledronic acid, other bisphosphonates , or any of the excipients of the drug.

Before administration of Zometa , tell your doctor if:
- Have liver problems ;
- Have or have had kidney problems ;
- Have or have had heart problems ;
- Have or have had pain, swelling or stiffness of the jaw, or a feeling of " heaviness " in the jaw or tooth extraction .

Use of the product in children:
Administration of Zometa in pediatric patients has not been studied and is therefore not recommended.

Driving and using machines
The effects of Zometa on ability to drive , operate machinery , or perform other activities that require maximum attention , have not been studied . Therefore, you must be careful when performing such activities.

How to use Zometa ?
How much is given ?
The usual dose is 4 mg

How to use Zometa ?
Zometa is administered as a 15 - minute intravenous infusion. Moreover , patients who do not have an increased amount of calcium in the body each day to take additional doses of calcium and vitamin D.
When given Zometa ?
Your doctor will determine when to apply Zometa .

How long is administered Zometa ?
In the treatment of bone metastases is given an infusion of Zometa every three or four weeks.

In the treatment of tumor-induced hypercalcaemia is usually administered per infusion of Zometa .

Possible side effects
Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of the following side effects:
Increase in body temperature. One third of patients treated with Zometa reported a headache and symptoms similar to flu - fever , fatigue, weakness, drowsiness , chills and pain in bones, joints and / or muscles. In most cases, no specific treatment is required and the symptoms subside after a few hours or days. Reported very rare cases of severe pain in bones, joints and / or muscles sometimes immobilization .
Other common side effects are:
- Gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea and vomiting , as well as loss of appetite .
- Conjunctivitis, which is reported with use of other bisphosphonates
- Blood tests showing changes in renal function and rarely , presence of acute kidney disease. Such reactions have been reported with other drugs in this group .
Some side effects may include hypersensitivity reactions , high blood pressure , shortness of breath , dizziness , sleep disturbances , tinnitus or numbness of the hands and feet, or diarrhea. Rare cases low blood pressure , in very rare cases, this has led to the seizure .
Occasionally skin reactions at the infusion site, as well as cases of rash , pruritus , and chest pain. Rarely occurs heartbeat and confusion.

Anaemia - a condition in which a decreased number of red blood cells , number of white blood cells and platelets is also observed in some cases. Levels of calcium, phosphate , magnesium, potassium in the blood may also too low without any symptoms , but your doctor will monitor this and take appropriate measures.
