Lorista HL is a combination of angiotensin II receptor antagonist (losartan) and diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide).

What is Lorista HL and what it is used for
Losartan HL is a combination of angiotensin II receptor antagonist (losartan) and diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide).

Losartan HL is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure).

2. What you need to know before you take Lorista HL

Do not take Loris HL:

if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to losartan and / or hydrochlorothiazide or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6) if you are pregnant after the third month (It is advisable to avoid taking Lorasta HL and early pregnancy - see section "Pregnancy and breast-feeding"),
if you have severely impaired liver function, cholestasis and biliary tract disease,
if you have severely impaired kidney function or your kidneys produce no urine (eg creatinine clearance
if you have low potassium levels, low sodium levels or high levels of calcium that can not be corrected by treatment if you are suffering from gout,
if you have diabetes or have impaired kidney function and are being treated with a blood pressure lowering medication containing aliskiren.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Lorista HL:

if you have a swollen face, lips, throat or tongue if you are taking diuretics (drugs for passing more urine) if you are on a diet with limited salt intake if you have or have had severe vomiting and / or diarrhea if you have heart failure
if you have a narrowing of the arteries to your kidneys (kidney artery stenosis) or you have only one functioning kidney, or you have recently had a kidney transplant if you have narrowed arteries (atherosclerosis), angina (chest pain due to poor heart function)
if you have "aortic or mitral stenosis" (narrowing of the heart valves) or "hypertrophic cardiomyopathy" (a disease causing heart muscle thickening)
if you have diabetes if you have had a gout
if you have or have had an allergic condition, asthma or a condition that causes joint pain, skin rash and fever (systemic lupus erythematosus)
if you have high calcium and low potassium levels or are on a low potassium diet
if you are going to have anesthesia (even with a dentist) or before surgery, or you are going to have tests to determine the function of a parathyroid gland, you should tell your doctor or medical staff that you are taking losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide
if suffer from primary hyperaldosteronism (a syndrome associated with increased secretion of the hormone aldosterone from the adrenal glands caused by abnormalities in the gland) if you take any of the following drugs used to treat high blood pressure:

Other Medicines and Loris HL
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Diuretic medicines such as hydrochlorothiazide contained in Loris HL may interact with other medicines.
Medicines containing lithium should not be taken with Lorist HL without constant control from your doctor.

There may be appropriate and special precautions (eg blood tests) if you are taking potassium supplements, potassium-containing substitutes or potassium-sparing medicines, other diuretics (medicines for urine output), some laxatives, gout medicines, to control heart rhythm or diabetes (oral medicines or insulins).

It is also important that your doctor is informed if you are taking other medicines that lower blood pressure, steroids, medicines to treat cancer, painkillers, medicines to treat fungal infections or medicines to treat arthritis, cholesterol used as cholestyramine , drugs for relaxing the muscles, sleeping tablets, opiates such as morphine, 'pressor amines' such as adrenaline or other drugs from the same group as oral medications for treating diabetes, or insulin.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Use in children and adolescents
Losartan HL is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to a lack of data on safety and efficacy.

Use in elderly patients
Losartan HL works equally well and is well tolerated by most elderly and younger patients. Most elderly patients need the same dose as is used in younger patients.

Driving and using machines
When you start treatment with this medicine, you should not do activities that require special attention (such as driving a car or working on dangerous machines) until you know how you are taking the medicine.

Loris HL contains lactose
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

3. How to take Lorista HL?
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Your doctor will decide which is the right dose of Loristan HL depending on your condition and whether you are taking other medicines. It is important that you continue to take Lorasta HL for as long as your doctor prescribes, this will ensure a constant control of your blood pressure.

Losartan / Hydrochlorothiazide is available in three strengths: Losartan H 50 mg / 12.5 mg film-coated tablets, Losartan HL 100 mg / 12.5 mg film-coated tablets and Lorasta HD 100 mg / 25 mg film-coated tablets.

High blood pressure
The usual dose for most patients with high blood pressure is one Lorasta H 50 mg / 12.5 mg daily for blood pressure control over a 24-hour period. This may be increased to 2 Losartan H 50 mg / 12.5 mg once daily or modified to 1 tablet daily of Lorasta HD 100 mg / 25 mg (higher). The maximum daily dose is 2 tablets of Losartan H 50 mg / 12.5 mg daily or 1 Lorasta HD 100 mg / 25 mg daily.

Losartan HL 100 mg / 12.5 mg (losartan 100 mg / hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg) film-coated tablets are available for patients titrated to 100 mg of losartan in need of additional blood pressure control.

If you take more Losartan HL than you should
If you take more Losartan HL than you should, tell your doctor immediately to get the necessary medical help in time.

Overdose may cause drop in blood pressure, palpitations, slow heartbeat, change in blood electrolytes and dehydration.

If you forget to take Lorista HL
Try to take Lorista HL as prescribed. However, if you miss a dose, do not take a double dose.
Take the next dose at the usual time.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

If you experience a similar reaction, stop taking Lorasta HL and tell your doctor immediately or go to the emergency room of the nearest hospital:

Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat which may cause difficulty swallowing or breathing)
This is a severe but rare side effect that affects more than 1 in 10,000 patients but less than 1 in 1,000 patients. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalization.

The following undesirable effects have been observed:

How to store Loris HL
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use Loris HL after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Store below 30 ° C.
Store in the original package in order to protect from moisture.

What Lorista HL contains
The active substances are losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide (losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide). Each Losartan HL tablet contains 100 mg of losartan potassium equivalent to 91.52 mg of losartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide.
The other ingredients are:
in the tablet core - pregelatinized maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, film-coated chitromel, macrogol 4000, talc and titanium dioxide (E171).

What Lorista HL looks like and what the package contains
Losartan HL tablets are white, oval, biconvex film-coated tablets.

The tablets are supplied in cartons containing 7, 10, 14, 20, 28, 30, 50, 56, 60, 84, 90 and 98 film-coated tablets in A1 / PVC / PVDC blisters.
