Soolantra contains the active substance ivermectin, which belongs to a group of medicines called avermectins. The cream is used on the skin to treat pimples and blemishes found with rosacea.

Soolantra should only be used in adults (18 years of age or older).

2. What you need to know before using Soolantra

Do not use Soolantra:

if you are allergic to ivermectin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Soolantra.

Worsening of rosacea symptoms may occur in some patients at the start of treatment, but this is rare and usually resolves within 1 week of treatment. Talk to your doctor if this happens.

Other medicines and Soolantra

Taking other medicines may affect Soolantra, so you should tell your doctor if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Pregnancy and lactation

The use of Soolantra during pregnancy is not recommended.

You should not use this medicine during breast-feeding, alternatively you should stop breast-feeding before starting treatment with Soolantra. You should consult your doctor to help you decide between using Soolantra and breast-feeding, taking into account the benefits of treatment and the benefits of breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

Soolantra has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Soolantra contains:

Cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions (eg contact dermatitis),

Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions (probably delayed),

Propylene glycol, which may cause skin irritation.

3. How to use Soolantra

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Important: Soolantra is for adults only and for use on facial skin only. Do not use this medicine on other parts of the body, especially wet areas of the body, e.g. your eyes, your mouth or your mucosa. Do not swallow.

The recommended dose is one application on the skin of the face per day. Apply a pea-sized amount of cream on each of the five areas of the face: forehead, chin, nose and each cheek. Then apply a thin layer of cream all over your face.

Eyelids, lips and all mucous membranes, such as the inside of the nose, mouth and eyes, should be avoided. If the cream accidentally gets into the eyes or near the eyes, eyelids, lips, mouth, or mucosa, wash the area thoroughly with water.

Do not apply cosmetics (such as other face creams or makeup) before applying Soolantra for the day. These products can be used after the applied cream has dried.

Wash your hands immediately after applying the cream.

You must use Soolantra daily during the course of treatment, and the course of treatment may be repeated. Your doctor will tell you how long you will need to use Soolantra. The duration of treatment can vary from person to person and depends on the severity of the skin disease.

You may notice improvement after 4 weeks of treatment. If there is no improvement after 3 months, you should stop Soolantra and consult your doctor.

Liver damage

If you have liver problems, please consult your doctor before using Soolantra.

Use in children and adolescents

Soolantra should not be used in children and adolescents.

How to open the tube with a child resistant cap

To avoid spillage, do not squeeze the tube while opening or closing it.

Press down on the cap and turn it counterclockwise (turn left). Then pull the cap.

How to close the tube with a child resistant cap

Press down and turn clockwise (turn right).

If you use more Soolantra than you should

If you have used more than the recommended daily dose, please contact your doctor, who will advise you on what action to take.

If you forget to use Soolantra

Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop using Soolantra

Pimples and blemishes will be reduced after only a few applications of this medicine. It is important that you continue to use Soolantra for as long as your doctor prescribes it.

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Soolantra could cause the following side effects:

Burning sensation on the skin

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Skin irritation Itchy skin Dry skin

Worsening of rosacea (please consult your doctor)

Adverse reactions of unknown frequency (cannot be estimated from the available data)

Redness of the skin

Inflammation of the skin

Swelling of the face

Elevation of liver enzymes (ALAT / ACAT)

5. How to store Soolantra

Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and tube after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

After first opening the tube, use the product within 6 months. This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.

Do not dispose of unused Soolantra cream in the sewer or in the household waste container. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

6. Contents of the package and additional information

What Soolantra contains

The active substance is ivermectin. One gram of cream contains 10 mg of ivermectin.

The other ingredients are: glycerol, isopropyl palmitate, carbomer, dimethicone, edetate disodium, citric acid monohydrate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, macrogol cetostearyl ether, oorbitan stearate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) oleic alcohol, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

What Soolantra looks like and contents of the pack

Soolantra is a white to pale yellow cream. Available in tubes containing 2 g, 15 g, 30 g, 45 g or 60 g of cream. Larger tubes have a child-resistant stopper, while the 2 g tube has no stopper. Pack of 1 tube.
